Volunteer Descriptions and Needs

TETNA is a volunteer-run non-profit organization. It wouldn't exist if it weren't for people like you who are willing to offer their talents and time.A variety of volunteer options are available to provide you the opportunity to become an active part of the Tosa East Towne neighborhood. Many require little of your time, but make a big difference in the quality of life in your neighborhood. There are two ways to volunteer:

  1. Fill out the "Membership Interest Groups, Activities and Events" section on the Membership form.
  2. Contact a chairperson directly using our Who's Who Directory.

Volunteer needs and activities are divided into five groups: Communication, Events, Safety, Social Activities and Administration. Browse through these sections to find what might interest you the most.

Communication

If you have the talents in creating databases and organizing email communication, we need you!Newsletter Contributor: Do you have a talent for writing or have great ideas for possible articles for the newsletter? Articles could also be submitted for publication on our website.Newsletter Distribution: If you enjoy receiving the newsletter, consider becoming a distributor for your block. Currently, the following areas are in need of someone to deliver the newsletter only four times a year in February, May, July and October:

  • 2500 71st

  • 2500 69th
  • 2400 68th
  • 2300 67th
  • 2400 67th; co-distributor

Newsletter Production: Proofreaders are needed four times a year before the newsletter is sent for printing. Graphic designers knowledgeable in InDesign on a Mac are needed occasionally as a backup to meet deadlines. An advertising rep is needed to get the word out about advertising opportunities in our newsletter and build a rapport with local businesses.Website Maintenance: Are you knowledgeable in WordPress or other blog programs? Post submissions are needed on an occasional basis. Are you savvy in CSS and HTML and other internet technologies? Serve as a consultant or help organize and improve our website as it grows.Other Ideas? Let us know if you have ideas for other ways to communicate with our neighbors and how you can help.

Events

Blood Drive: A great opportunity to make a bigger difference not only in our neighborhood, but our region. Need volunteers to help once a year to communicate and assist with this event.Cookie Exchange: A fun annual event perfect for someone who enjoys planning parties, baking, or even just a sweet tooth. Requires a very small commitment for this casual once a year activity.Egg Hunt: Donations of time and products are needed for this family event. It requires just a once a year commitment and sly egg-hiding skills.Family Fun Day: A great way to get to know your neighbors and local businesses. Minimum time commitment required to plan and organize this summer event once a year. Volunteer during the event with family-oriented activities like crafts, face painting, and games. This volunteer opportunity promises to be a good time.Halloween Registration: One of the most popular annual events. If Halloween is one of your favorite holidays, spend a little time helping out the committee by planning and organizing the festivities. Or pick a time to help on a registration day; only an hour and a half time commitment.Halloween Kickoff Party: A newly suggested event to be held pre-trick-or-treating. Do you already hold a fun Halloween party every year? Consider using your creativity and step it up a notch by inviting the whole neighborhood to Center Street Park for a kickoff party. We need a team of creative planners to get this party started.Movie Night in the Park: Another newly suggested event to be held near the end of summer or early fall. We need a committee to take on this event's premiere. Knowledge of equipment for projecting movies would be helpful. Time commitment is up to you; either a casual family event or full-blown production!Rummage Sale: A very popular annual summer event. Just a few people are needed to help. Little time commitment involved by passing out maps, placing ads and signs, and collating registrations.Other Ideas? Let us know if you have ideas for other ways to connect and socialize with our neighbors and how you can help.

Block Watch: The Community Support Divison of the Wauwatosa Police Department needs Block Captains to deliver the quarterly "Tosa Watch" newsletter to their block. Because these watches are established, there are no other responsibilities. The following blocks have vacancies:

Board of Directors: Become involved at the heart of TETNA's operations. Main duties involve attending board meetings for a couple hours about eight times a year.Membership: Newly-established role that involves collecting membership forms and preparing a spreadsheet, providing dues to Treasurer, passing on volunteer information to chairpersons, and serving as the source for membership questions. The bulk of these duties occur only once a year during our membership drive.Scholarship: Assist in the organization, collection and distribution of scholarship funds. Requires little time and one or two people are needed.Youth Services Directory: Collect youth directory submissions, prepare and provide the directory as needed.
