We at TETNA look forward to spring each year, not just because the air begins to warm and the neighborhood begins to bloom, but also because it’s time again to lace up our running shoes and hit the streets on the Saturday after Mother’s Day for the annual Run Tosa Run.
The race has grown steadily over the past four years, and in 2017 more than 200 runners helped us raise enough money to donate $5,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities Eastern Wisconsin.
It’s a great way to raise awareness of all our neighborhood and local businesses have to offer while raising money for our charity. What makes Run Tosa Run a success? It helps to have such a beautiful course, but we also couldn’t do it each year without our terrific sponsors and many dedicated volunteers.
5K run/walk at 9 a.m. May 19
The 5K is chip-timed by West Bend-based Absolute Race Timing, which scrolls results on kiosks and a monitor at the finish line and also emails runners their results after they finish. The course starts at 69th Street and North Avenue and weaves through the neighborhood between 74th Street and 62nd Street. View a map of the course here, and check out this nifty animation created by the City of Wauwatosa below…
Kids’ run at 8:30 a.m. May 19
The kids’ run is about a half mile, looping one neighborhood block and finishing under the same finish line arch as the 5K. The run is recommended for children ages 10 and younger, and each young runner gets a Run Tosa Run T-shirt and a finisher’s medal. We also offer various children’s activities near the starting/finishing line.
Online registration is now closed. Race-day registration is $35 with credit cards only.
Early bird packet pickup will be from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, in the pocket park next to Rocket Baby Bakery. You also can pick up your packets on race day starting at 7:30 a.m.
Prizes and awards
- Medals/ribbons will go to top 3 male/female finishers in age categories: under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+.
- Overall top male and top female finishers receive awesome East Tosa gift baskets. We’re still assembling this year’s awards.
- All 5K participants can enter drawings for equally awesome East Tosa prizes.
Strollers are welcome, starting at the back of the pack. Not welcome are animals, roller skates, roller blades, skateboards or bikes. The race will be canceled only by extreme weather, in which case race fees will be used as donations to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

About our top sponsors
In addition to lead sponsors BelAir Cantina and GRAEF, we’re grateful for the support of our other top sponsors, Lutheran Home & Harwood Place, Hue Vietnamese Restaurant, West Grove Clinic, Harwood Engineering Consultants and Toshiba.
All our 5K runners also are entered in a drawing for great East Tosa prizes. The prize list continues to grow and so far includes donations from: Rocket Baby Bakery, Cranky Al’s, The Nobleman, Indulgence Chocolatiers, Ruckus & Glee and Tosa Yoga. Thanks also to Metcalfe’s Market for donating water bottles for our runners and to Jim Phillips for his great work producing our T-shirts.
About the cause
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Wisconsin will benefit from the proceeds raised by the event. The well-known charity is located on Watertown Plank Road in Wauwatosa, near Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. The Ronald McDonald House mission is to provide a “home away from home” for families while their children are receiving medical treatment at local hospitals at little or no cost. The House is more than just a place to stay – offering families therapeutic programming including art, animal and music therapy, a comprehensive meal program, comfortable community spaces and so much more.
