Michela Miller awarded 2021 TETNA scholarship

TETNA is proud to offer a scholarship to one of our neighborhood’s graduating high school seniors again this year, thanks to the generous donations of our members. TETNA honors a bright young person from our neighborhood whose essay response best represents TETNA’s philosophy of providing  “a welcoming and nurturing environment … and sense of community through shared interests.”

This year the scholarship committee chose Wauwatosa East High School senior Michela Miller as our winner. Michela is a devoted student who has worked hard to make her community a better place. An honor roll student all four years of high school, Michela has taken on leadership roles in several clubs, including president of Best Buddies, president and founder of Raise Your Voice Psychology Club and student body president. Michela has completed her Girl Scout Gold Award and volunteers for the East Tosa Alliance outside of school.

In selecting Michela for the scholarship, a member of the scholarship committee said: “I loved the way she described what our neighborhood has meant to her, serving as her extended ‘family’ since she doesn't have other family nearby, the value of knowing the name of everyone on her block and the joys of trick-or-treating and participating in TETNA scavenger hunts. This is clearly a community-minded candidate who exemplifies the TETNA philosophy, and I trust she will carry the spirit of being a good neighbor wherever her future pursuits take her.”

Michela will be attending the University of Minnesota and plans on studying public policy, psychology and Spanish.

We have many incredible students in our area, and this is one small way we can support and recognize their efforts. Each year we are impressed and amazed at the quality of the submissions we receive.
