Augustina Piel awarded TETNA’s annual neighborhood scholarship

Thanks to generous donations from our members, TETNA is proud to offer a scholarship to one of our neighborhood’s graduating high school seniors. TETNA honors a bright young person from our neighborhood whose essay response best represents TETNA’s philosophy of providing  “a welcoming and nurturing environment … and sense of community through shared interests.”

This year, the scholarship committee recommended and the TETNA board approved awarding the $750 scholarship to Wauwatosa East High School senior Augustina Piel.

Augustina is at the top of her class, with a 4.0 GPA. She has been a stage manager for over 14 theater productions at Longfellow, East and community theater. She is an Ambassador Girl Scout and participated in many activities in our local community with her troop. She loves reading and writing and works part-time at the Wauwatosa Public Library.

In voting for Augustina for the scholarship, a member of the scholarship committee said: “Her descriptions of neighborhood life – whether by sharing a book at a free little library, babysitting neighborhood kids or working with neighbors to find a lost pet – demonstrate that she understands the value of community.”

Augustina plans to attend Stern Business School at New York University in the fall to study business and political economy.

We have many incredible students in our area, and this is one small way we can support and recognize their efforts. The wide array of talents and contributions of all of the students who applied for the scholarship impressed the selection committee. We are a lucky community to have so many amazing young people as neighbors.
