TETNA's 2017 scholarship awarded to Ricky Serrano

Ricky Serrano scholarshipEvery year, so many of our neighbors contribute money to our scholarship fund, and we are honored to be able to use that money to provide a scholarship to deserving high school seniors from our neighborhood. This year's recipient of TETNA's scholarship is Ricky Serrano.TETNA board president David Paulsen presented Serrano with a check for $500 at the neighborhood association's annual meeting April 26 at Cranky Al's. (The event also featured discussions with Officer Tracy Burbach and the neighborhood's aldermen, Bobby Pantuso and Joel Tilleson.)Serrano was chosen by TETNA's scholarship committee, which provided this summary of his credentials: He is an active student-athlete and Eagle Scout. To earn his Eagle Scout rank, he organized a drive that collected 724 pounds of household items, food, clothing and more for the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. The teachers who wrote Ricky's letters of recommendation described him as a hardworking, dedicated student leader who has been active in Student Council, National Honor Society, Courageous Conversations/Cafe (Cultural Alliance for East), and the "We the People" national civics competition. Through his activities and service, Ricky has made our community a better place.TETNA also is pleased to announce that its board is recommending that the scholarship be increased to $750 in 2018 because of an increase in donations over the past couple years. The scholarship will be among the items voted on in the new TETNA budget at our next meeting, at 7 p.m. Monday, May 8, in the Center Street Park Pavilion. We hope to see you there. Our scholarship is funded through the generous donations of our members. To donate to the Scholarship Fund or see a list of previous members, click here.
