Spend a Day Eating!

Read about two TETNA residents who love food: Bobby Pantuso reviews his experience at the new Daymaker Cafe and Theresa Nemetz describes her Milwaukee Food Tours business. If you are a TETNA resident and would like to share your review of a TETNA-related business on our website, contact Julie Terwelp.

Board member Bobby Pantuso shares his experience at the new Daymaker Cafe:

I think the magic number of visits before you can truly judge a restaurant is three times. Today, I hit that magic number with Daymaker Cafe on 72nd and North.I like this place and I hope in time it can become a neighborhood fixture. I love a restaurant that has both table and counter service, ala George Webb because I can either sit at a table and dine with friends and family or sit at the counter when I am by myself and not feel like a guy alone at a table.I have had breakfast twice and dinner once now at Daymaker and I have been pleased with my food every time. I am pretty old-fashioned when it comes to breakfast. Eggs, Juice, Toast, Bacon, Pancakes... those kinds of things. While Daymaker has some pretty extravagant omelets and other breakfast fare, it is the quality of the ingredients used in their tradition breakfast dishes that stand out. Fresh eggs, quality sausage, and tasty bacon. I am also a fan of their pancakes. The menu is very creatively written as well with menu items like “The French Connection” (French toast, eggs, and meat) It is that creativity on the menu that translates to chef/owner David Lamb's cuisine. A chef is an artist who's medium is food. Chef Lamb has taken the world of cafe/diner food and kicked it up a few notches. Look no further than Daymaker's Lunch/Dinner menu for more evidence of this.If you are a hamburger connoisseur as I am then the 14 burgers that they offer will keep you coming back. The creativity of the selection along with the quality of the meat are superb. I myself have tried the Pretzel (A burger with brandy mustard-glazed onions and Swill on a pretzel bread bun) along with the Surf & Turf (Burger topped with snow crab, served with lemon caper mayo) This is not your grandpa's diner! These two burgers sent the every-mans sandwich to the next level, or two, of food wonderment.More important than that, they made me want to come back for more. That is what any good restaurant strives to do, feed a man a meal you'll make a buck. Make him come back you'll build a business. My only criticisms are minor. First, they have a sign saying they have free wi-fi, yet it isn't working. Wi-fi today is liken air-conditioning was in 1920, something to draw people in. I like to sit and get work done, especially when I eat alone. My laptop is usually wherever I am. Second, more art on the walls please. Old pictures of North Avenue or new age pics that make you go hmm It gives people something to talk about while they wait or something to look at and ponder while they digest. My opinions aside I think Daymaker's tag line says it all: Where Everyday meets Gourmet.
