Welcome Spring to TETNA: April 18-25, 2021

Join us this week making our corner of the world a little better.

Clean up your yard and block

Start close to home. Pick up or rake-out winter's leftovers in your yard, or take a walk around the block and pick up trash, clean out the storm sewer grate, or offer to help a neighbor with an outdoor project.

Clean up public spaces

Spread the love around the neighborhood. Any day this week, grab a friend and safely pick-up one of our parks, playgrounds, parking lots, or main streets. A trash bag and a pair of gloves is all you need to make a big impact on our public spaces, and is a great socially-distanced activity the whole family can do. Share a picture on our Facebook page to show us how you Keep TETNA Beautiful!

There are also opportunities for bigger clean-up efforts. Friends of Center Street Park are looking for volunteers to help spread mulch, and Milwaukee River Keepers is organizing a big clean up event this weekend. Contact either organization for more details: centerstreetpark@gmail.com and https://www.milwaukeeriverkeeper.org/restore/spring-cleanup/

Donate to the Roosevelt Food Pantry

Did you know there is a Roosevelt community food pantry, located on 74th? The pantry is stocked with non-perishables so that local families can take what they need to help stretch their groceries. Over the last year, it has been well-used and clearly needed.

Donate to the pantry during our TETNA community food drive on Sunday, April 25th between 1-3 p.m. Just come to the Roosevelt 74th St. entrance with your contribution and get free flowers to plant at home as a thank-you from TETNA (until they run out!)

Suggested items to donate: Peanut butter & jelly; heat-and-eat meals like Dinty Moore, Chef Boyardee, chili; tuna; trail mix; granola bars; soups & crackers; pasta & sauce; spices; just-add-water mac 'n cheese; boxed rice mixes; beef jerky.

Or, make a monetary donation to support the pantry online: https://app.memberhub.gives/rooseveltfoodpantry

Renew your recycling practice

Use Wauwatosa's online tool "Waste Wizard" to help keep our recycling clean and effective. www.wauwatosa.net/wizard

Don't wish-cycle, use the Wizard to double check if it belongs in the trash, recycling cart, or other options for disposal.

Plant some new flowers and plants

Donate on Sunday to the food drive and get some flowers to plant in the neighborhood! We will have a limited supply available between 1-3 pm at the food drive. Or do you have extra plants (hostas and daffodils, we are looking at you) that you are willing to share with a neighbor? Leave a comment on the TETNA Facebook page to arrange a swap with a fellow member.

And if your green thumb is ready to go, check out some of the great gardening articles written by our past-president, Sarah Hunt-Frank, in back-issues of our newsletter available online. (Peeking into those old newsletters is a real TETNA time-capsule too!)
