Halloween Safety
Here's some important safety information to keep in mind during our nighttime trick-or-treat event.Trick or Treat BlocksHouses distributing candy are in the 2400 and 2500 blocks from 62nd – 67th and 69th – 73rd Streets. The blocks closest to Center Street and North Avenue, and all of 68th Street are excluded for traffic safety reasons.Crossing Busy StreetsWe do not close off any streets during this event, so remember to watch out for vehicles. If you need to cross 68th Street, please use the four-way stop at the intersection of Wright and 68th.Currently we have no one signed up to volunteer as crossing guards. If your home is not in the designated area, you can distribute candy to trick-or-treaters while serving as a crossing guard at an intersection. Get into the spirit and wear a costume if you like! Adults and teens can help by contacting Jenny Farr.Adult SupervisionAt least ONE ADULT must accompany each group of children.Keep Your Yard Safe Too!Tosa East Towe is known for having some amazing and creative Halloween decorations! Consider using battery-powered candles, Halloween string lights, LED lights, or other alternatives to a real flame. If only the real thing will do, check in advance to make sure candles or open flames are away from areas where children might be walking.Inspect your yard at night to make sure it is well-lit and free of items like wires, hoses, and toys that can be easily tripped over. If you are passing out candy, make sure your driveway, sidewalk, and porch are well-lit and post your orange sign where it can be easily seen.Keep your pets inside. Halloween can be a frightening time for pets because of all the loud activity and strange costumes. A scared pet can do unexpected things like bite a trick-or-treating child or run across the street in front of an oncoming car.Click here for more Safety Tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
